The History about Uganda Martyrs Shrines Parish,Namugongo

The Uganda Martyrs Shrine Parish Namugongo started as a sub-parish of Nsambya with a grass thatched church at Kyaliwajjala trading center, about a kilometer from the current location of the Shrine.

On 6th June 1920, as the Uganda Martyrs were being beautified in Rome, a young Dutch priest, Rev. Fr. Stephen Walters together with a group of pilgrims from Nsambyamade a pilgrimage to the site where St. Charles Lwanga was martyred. It was during this pilgrimage that the priest conceived the idea of acquiring land and building of a church at this very spot. 
This dream was realized when eight acres of land were bought around the spotof martyrdom of St. Charles, and this led to the transfer of the church from Kyaliwajja to Namugongo, construction of a small rectangular but beautiful structure and finally the appointment of Rev. Fr. Peter van Rooyen as the first parish priest of Namugongo Shrine Parish in 1935. 
In 1967, His Eminence Emmanuel Cardinal Nsubuga decided to build a befitting Martyrs monument at the site; the current Martyrs Shrine.

MPs appeal for special support to border districts over Covid-19 pandemic

Hon. Santa Alum, Woman Representative, Oyam District. Legislators have beseeched government to give preferential treatment to the border districts with regard to resource allocations in the fight against the Covid-19 pandemic.   The MPs hailing from the border districts told Parliament chaired by Speaker Rebecca Kadaga that the border points were ill prepared to manage the rising cases of the coronavirus, fearing that the fight against the pandemic could even be prolonged if nothing is done. They also questioned the rationale of allocating equal resources to all districts across the country, including those without cases, in response to Prime Minister Dr Ruhakana Rugunda’s weekly update on the pandemic to Parliament on Thursday, 21 May 2020. Bobi wine, Nubian Lee holds a scientific Concert.

Singer Bobi Wine also Kyadondo East’s Member of Parliament on Sunday 28th June 2020 held a Scientific Concert termed Freedom Concert. The Concert was held in Bobi Wine’s One Love Beach Busabala and was attended by over 19, 000 audience on Facebook as it was live on His official Facebook page. Bobi Wine was not alone at this concert but was accompanied by Artists like Nubian Lee, Aziz Azion, King Šaha, Dr.Hilda man among other Artists.
