Lira; 20 yeard old man handed 10 years for defiling, infecting 8-year-old girl with HIV

A 20-year-old man was on Friday sentenced to 10 years imprisonment for defiling and infecting an 8-year-old girl with HIV/Aids.

Emmanuel Eteka was convicted on his own plea of guilty during a virtual plea bargain session presided over by the Lira High Court resident judge Alex Ajiji Mackay.

Prosecution told court that on March 2, 2019 at around 3am, Eteka while at Abongomon Village in Alebtong District, found the victim sleeping in their house and had sexual intercourse with her.
“The victim was at that time eight years old and the sexual act caused tear and rapture in her private part. At the time of offence, Eteka was 19 years of age,” the prosecution stated.

Mr Emmanuel Egaru, the defense counsel, had asked court to handle the convict with leniency since he pleaded guilty and had shown a sign of remorse.
The judge upheld the 10 years imprisonment reached upon between the state prosecution and the convict.
“Considering the fact that the convict has admitted his offence and has shown remorsefulness, the sentence of 10 years imprisonment is hereby upheld including the 15 months he has spent on remand,” he ruled.

Kenya drags Uganda to court over rise in L.Victoria water levels citing foul play at Nalubale Dam

A team of Kenyan lawyers has dragged Uganda to court over the unprecedented rise in the water levels of Lake Victoria which has caused floods in the Nyanza region. The team led by former Law Society of Kenya (LSK) President, Isaac Oker o, filed the petition at the East Africa Court of Justice against Uganda. President Museveni in his 16th address on Corona virus updates speaks about the reopening of schools and other educational institutions and he said Education institutions will stay closed. Its still too risky to open schools. In the meantime, government will launch a big long-distance education programme through radios. Each homestead will get a radio set.
