Lira; 20 yeard old man handed 10 years for defiling, infecting 8-year-old girl with HIV

A 20-year-old man was on Friday sentenced to 10 years imprisonment for defiling and infecting an 8-year-old girl with HIV/Aids.

Emmanuel Eteka was convicted on his own plea of guilty during a virtual plea bargain session presided over by the Lira High Court resident judge Alex Ajiji Mackay.

Prosecution told court that on March 2, 2019 at around 3am, Eteka while at Abongomon Village in Alebtong District, found the victim sleeping in their house and had sexual intercourse with her.
“The victim was at that time eight years old and the sexual act caused tear and rapture in her private part. At the time of offence, Eteka was 19 years of age,” the prosecution stated.

Mr Emmanuel Egaru, the defense counsel, had asked court to handle the convict with leniency since he pleaded guilty and had shown a sign of remorse.
The judge upheld the 10 years imprisonment reached upon between the state prosecution and the convict.
“Considering the fact that the convict has admitted his offence and has shown remorsefulness, the sentence of 10 years imprisonment is hereby upheld including the 15 months he has spent on remand,” he ruled.

State house of Kenya Confirms Four Covid-19 cases

Four people have tested positive for the novel coronavirus at State House, Nairobi. According to State House spokesperson Kanze Dena, the four cases were recorded during a mass COVID-19 testing held on Thursday, June 11. The infected officers were admitted at the Kenyatta University Teaching, Referral and Research Hospital in Kiambu County for treatment. “The tests are conducted on all staff including His Excellency the President and members of his family,” said Kanze Dena, in a statement. “Families and close contacts of the affected officers are also being attended to accordingly.” The State House spokesperson has assured the public that President Uhuru Kenyatta and the First Family are safe and free from COVID-19. Kadaga toured the new parliament Chambers, Only 3 and half floors completed.

Rt. Hon. Rebecca Kadaga this Afternoon toured the site of the new Parliament Chambers, which was expected to be completed by July 2020. She said so far the contractor, ROKO Construction Ltd, has only completed three and a half levels on a building meant to host nine levels. Kadaga added she advised the Contractor to consider having night shifts if they are to complete the works in the extra one year they’ve been given. The new building will host the debating chamber with a capacity to sit 600 MPs as opposed to the current chamber whose capacity is 100. The new Parliament building will in addition have facilities such as health clubs, museum, a state-of-the-art archiving facility, gallery, restaurant and offices. The project is expected to be completed by July 2021.

President Museveni in his 16th address on Corona virus updates speaks about the reopening of schools and other educational institutions and he said Education institutions will stay closed.
