COVID-19 in Kenya: 59 more people test positive, total rises to 4,797

Kenya's total cumulative samples tested now stands at 142,366, with these, age distribution of the new cases is between 7 to 67 years: out of the new 59 new cases, 47 are males and 12 are females.

73 more people have however been discharged bringing the total number of recoveries to 1,682.Two others succumbed to the COVID-19 disease in the last 24 hours raising the death toll to 125.
The cases are spread out in Nairobi 28, Mombasa 21, Kilifi 3, Kiambu 2, Machakos 2, Kisii 1, Bungoma 1 and Webuye 1.
Nairobi cases are from Dagoretti North 7; Kibra 5; Embakasi East 4; Embakasi North 3;Westlands 3; Embakasi West 2; Embakasi Central 2; Roysambu 1 and Makadara 1.
In Mombasa, the 21 cases are in Kisauni 8; Likoni 5; Mvita 3; Nyali 2; Changamwe 2 and Jomvu 1.
In Kilifi, the 3 cases are from Kaloleni, Kilifi North & Kilifi South. Kiambu has 2 cases are from Kiambaa and Thika while Machakos has one case in Athi River. Kisii has one case in Bobasi, Bungoma one case in Webuye and Uasin Gishu one case in Turbo.
Dr. Mwangangi said the Health Ministry is working closely with various community based groups such as non-governmental organizations, civil society organizations and other stakeholders, to continue educating people on how to contain the spread of the virus.
“This approach has also been complemented by over 59,000 trained Community Health Volunteers, who have been deployed in all the 47 counties, & have so far been able to reach over 12 million households,” she said during the briefing on Monday.
According to the Health CAS, counties such as Nairobi, Mombasa, Busia and Kajiado have been experiencing an upsurge of infections, with majority being asymptomatic, hence the need to roll out this home-based program.

Kenya drags Uganda to court over rise in L.Victoria water levels citing foul play at Nalubale Dam

A team of Kenyan lawyers has dragged Uganda to court over the unprecedented rise in the water levels of Lake Victoria which has caused floods in the Nyanza region. The team led by former Law Society of Kenya (LSK) President, Isaac Oker o, filed the petition at the East Africa Court of Justice against Uganda. This is after it emerged that an attempt by Uganda to meet the demand for electricity could be behind the floods that have rendered thousands of Kenyans homeless in the lake region.
