Seven Frontline health workers test positive for Covid-19 in Uganda

Ministry of health this Evening of 31st May 2020 has confirmed that Seven health workers have been tested positive for Covid-19. Among these include 3 nurses, 2 doctors and 2 senior level officers bringing the total confirmed cases to 417. Three (3) of the health workers were confirmed among the samples of Saturday 30th May 2020 while four (4) were confirmed on sunday 31st May 2020. All have been admitted at Entebbe grade B hospital and Mulago National specialised hospitals and are in stable condition.

3rd June Uganda Martyrs day will be live on Youtube as well as on all social Media Platforms

Due to the outbrake of Covid-19 pandemic, this year's Uganda Martyrs day celebration which will take place on the 3rd of June will be live on all of Uganda Martyrs Catholic shrines Social Media platforms, Facebook, Twitter, Youtube, instagram and Linkedin. This years celebration will not attract the pilgrims from worldwide as it used to be but it will only be led by a selected group of people as a measure to prevent the spread of the virus and everyone will pray from the comfort of their homes. This Years Celebration was supposed to be led by the Diocese of Masaka.

Ministry of education and sports on their final stages to reopen schools.

Ministry of education and sports through Permanent secretary Patrick Muinda today clearly stated that they are now in their final stages of consultative process on the re-opening of schools and other education institutions. He added the Ministry is embarking on consolidating the feedback obtained over the last week.

Cavendish University Uganda Makes History in the first ever Virtual Graduation.

Cavendish University Uganda Today made history by Celebrating its 9th graduation in a scientific and a virtual ceremony. This kind of Graduation is marked to be the first of its kind in the country. Statement on Stage Two of return to training

Premier League Shareholders vote unanimously to resume contact training, marking another step towards restarting the season. Premier League Shareholders voted unanimously to resume contact training on Wednesday 27 May, marking another step towards restarting the Premier League season, when safe to do so.  Squads are now able to train as a group and engage in tackling while minimising any unnecessary close contact.  The Premier League’s priority is the health and wellbeing of all participants. Strict medical protocols are in place to ensure the training ground is the safest environment possible and players and staff will continue to be tested for COVID-19 twice a week.  Stage Two of the Return to Training protocol has been agreed following consultation with clubs, players, managers, the PFA, LMA and the Government. Discussions are ongoing as work continues towards resuming the season, when conditions allow.

Rashford honoured for fundraising work

Man Utd striker receives special recognition for role in helping children at risk of going hungry during coronavirus pandemic. Over the last few weeks,  Manchester United  striker  Marcus Rashford  has been playing an important role in helping millions of children at risk of going hungry during the coronavirus pandemic. Together with charitable food distributor network  Fareshare , the 22-year-old has helped to raise £20million in donations which has been used to provide meals to 2.8m children who are going without because of the closure of schools. And this fundraising effort has led to Rashford receiving a special recognition award by the High Sheriff of Greater Manchester for his "outstanding activity and contribution to the community".

Seeta Traffic police knocked by a court Judge.

A Chief Magistrate was behind the steering wheel of a Toyota Rav4 registration number UAS 597U that allegedly knocked and caused the death of traffic Police Constable Innocent Ayesigye in Seeta. Police constable Innocent Ayesingye: Deceased. Ayesigye succumbed to accident injuries on Tuesday morning at Rubaga hospital. The police leadership had transferred him from Mulago hospital where he was taken on Sunday evening after he had been knocked at Namanve along Kampala -Jinja highway. A Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) footage released by police and a picture taken by an onlooker on Sunday evening showed occupants in the Rav4 guarded by a police officer in a Khaki police uniform driving off the scene as Ayesigye appeared almost dead on the ground. Mr Ayesigye was attached to Seeta police station and at the time of the accident was riding a police motorcycle UP 2164 Jiansey white in colour.

A senior Six Student Commits Suicide over Lockdown.

 senior six student has committed suicide in a classroom in Bugembe town Council over the COVID- 19 lockdown. Kiira Region Police Spokesperson Abby Ngako says Rogers Mpoya was a student at Glory Land Christian College in Mpumudde, Jinja town. Ngako says the deceased’s body was found hanging in the classroom of Bugembe Parents Primary School that’s owned by his father. He says on searching the room, the police found a note stating that one of the reasons he took his life was the prolonged lockdown that led to indefinite closure of schools. The body of the deceased has been taken to Jinja Hospital Mortuary as investigations into the cause of death continue.

Gulu calls for Amuru District to be put under total lockdown.

Gulu district Covid-19 Task Force wants Amuru district put under total lock-down to curtail the spread of Covid-19 to the community and the neighboring  districts .  Chairman of Gulu District, Martin Ojara Mapenduzi. This follows reports that the cargo trucks that have formed lengthy queues in Elegu Town Council are facilitating illicit commercial sex trade in the area. According to Kassim Akule, the LCI Chairperson of Lorikwor West Village in Elegu, the illicit business is now being transacted in trucks as hundreds of cargo drivers spend between two to four days seeking clearance. With truck drivers being  identified  as high-risk individuals, Gulu district Task force is concerned that failure to control their contact with community members will  increase   cases  of community  infections  of COVID-19. Uganda confirms 28 New Covid-19 cases.

As per 27th May 2020, 28 new cases ere registered in Uganda bringing the total number of confirmed cases to 281.  Out of the 28, 21 are truck drivers who arrived to Uganda from S.Sudan via Elegu while the other 7 are the contacts of the previously confirmed truck drivers. All of them were under quarantine during the time of test.  In addition, 7 foreign truck drivers ( 4 from Tanzania, 1 from Eritrea, 1 from Congo and 1 from Burundi) all handed over to their country of origin. The samples which were taken from the boarder points are 1456 while 548 were from the community totaling to 2004. The number of recoveries are now 69 according to the Ministry of Health.

Kenya drags Uganda to court over rise in L.Victoria water levels citing foul play at Nalubale Dam

A team of Kenyan lawyers has dragged Uganda to court over the unprecedented rise in the water levels of Lake Victoria which has caused floods in the Nyanza region. The team led by former Law Society of Kenya (LSK) President, Isaac Oker o, filed the petition at the East Africa Court of Justice against Uganda. This is after it emerged that an attempt by Uganda to meet the demand for electricity could be behind the floods that have rendered thousands of Kenyans homeless in the lake region. The East Africa Community Council of Ministers suggest Uganda may have breached the agreements on how much water to release from Nalubale Dam. The dam is the main outlet of the water from the world’s largest freshwater lake with the reservoir being one of the two major outlets. “We want the court to examine whether, as we suspect, there has been a violation of provisions of the treaty that establishes EAC,” noted Okero in Interview on Kenyan Television KTN News. Kadaga Speaks about Eddie Kenzo's situation.

Rt. Hon. Rebecca Kadaga this evening said this evening she received a phone call from Eddie Kenzo a Ugandan Musician who recently went to Ivory Coast but he is currently stack there. She said he is current in dire straits since he has spent all he has and he can not return back home since there is no flight available now. In her speech, she said she will call upon the ministry of Foreign Affairs working through Ugandan mission in Abuja, to offer him consular services to help him return home and also meet his bills. She added, she will also inform H.E about his matter so that he can be assisted. For him its is even worse because he is in a French speaking country, life is not as easy as it would be in a English speaking country where he would talk with people and get assistance, She added.

Kenya Covid-19 cases jumps to 1471.

Kenya reports daily Jump in the Covid-19 cases. Today the new confirmed cases are 123 out of 3077 samples tasted. The Health CS Mutahi Kagwe says. Currently kenya has a total of 1471 case with 408 people who have recovered and 55 people so far dead. The active cases are 1008.

Parliament demands report on collapsed buildings

Legislators have tasked the Ministry of Works and Transport to present a detailed report to Parliament on the collapse of buildings around the city within a week. This followed presentation of a ministerial statement by the Minister of State for Transport, Hon Joy Kabatsi on the action taken by the ministry to enforce adherence to building standards and regulations. This comes after numerous accidents occurring at building sites, compensation of affected families and steps taken to stem the re-occurrence of such accidents. Kabatsi said the Building and Construction Board which is charged with supervising construction sites has been greatly affected by the COVID-19 pandemic lockdown and has not been able to carry out supervision. She added that masons have taken advantage of the lockdown to put up buildings that have collapsed. She added that it is only after the lockdown that engineers responsible in the ministry will be able to fulfill their duties and curtail such mishaps.

H.E Yoweri K Museveni Commissions LIDA packaging Products Ltd.

Today, His Excellency Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has commissioner LIDA Packaging products Limited based in Mbalala, Mukono District. LIDA is manufacturing Masks and PPE for health workers. They have the capacity of of manufaturing 560,000 masks per day and they are currently employing 315 Ugandan youth.

Gulu Covid-19 case hits 57.

This evening, Gulu Regions Referral hospital has received 44 new confirmed cases totaling to 57. All are recieving treatment at a isolation facility at the hospital. The newly expanded facility is the clinical school near the hospital. Among these, two are confirmed case from the community (one was in the quarantine facility in Pablo while the other was in isolation in Gulu) and they have been in contact with the truck drivers and all these truck drivers are Ugandans whose s amples were tasted positive from Elegu boarder post in Amuru district. It has been noted that all the 57 are in a stable condition and the medical team are working hard to help them get well in time and resume back home, said Ojara Martin Mapenduzi on behalf of Covid-19 Task force, Guilty.

Burundi election commission says Ndayishimiye new president

Burundi's election commission declared the governing party's candidate, Evariste Ndayishimiye, the winner of the country's presidential election amid accusations of rigging by the leading opposition challenger.          People crowded during election Ndayishimiye, a retired army general, won 68.72 percent of the votes in last week's ballot, while Agathon Rwasa, the main opposition leader, received 24.19 percent, the commission said on Monday. There was a turnout of 88 percent. Since Ndayishimiye received more than 50 percent of the vote, he avoided a runoff. Ndayishimiye was picked by the governing CNDD-FDD party to succeed outgoing President Pierre Nkurunziza, whose controversial decision to seek a third term in the last election in 2015 sparked mass unrest, violence and an opposition boycott. 107-yr old woman recovers from Covid-19

A 107-year-old Iranian woman who was infected with the new coronavirus has recovered, Iran’s semi-official Fars news agency reported on Sunday. The woman, Saltanat Akbari, was admitted to the Khansari hospital in the central city of Arak. She was released from the hospital after spending “some time” in isolation. “She defeated the virus with the help of doctors and nurses at the hospital,” Fars said. Iran is one of the most affected countries in the Middle East with a total of 133,521 infected cases and 7,359 deaths. The novel coronavirus  affects the elderly, those with underlying medical conditions and those whose immunity has been  compromised by varying factors.

Ugandans develop an app for Covid-19 contacts tracing.

As Covid-19 pandemic wreaks havoc worldwide, many scientists are looking for possible solutions to flatten the curve and slow the spread of the infection. Defining Technologies, a Ugandan firm, has developed a contact tracing app which alerts users and the Ministry of Health in case someone has been in contact with a Covid-19 positive person. “The public users can see if they have been exposed, privately log your location and completely control your data whereas the champions of this fight (public health officials) are offered with reliable contact tracing, map infections with accuracy and anonymously verify cases,” Mr Toskin Gregory, a cyber security analyst at Define Technologies, said on Thursday. President Museveni Advice Muslims to pray from home as God is everywhere

President Museveni has told Muslims in Uganda to pray from their homes as they celebrate Eid el Fitir this Sunday marking the end of the holy month of Ramadhan. Mr Museveni said that although it will not be possible to congregate in mosques to celebrate Eid el Fitir because of the Coronavirus pandemic and that State House was not able to offer them the usual dinner at Entebbe, Allah would still bless them in their homes.
