This follows reports that the cargo trucks that have formed lengthy queues in Elegu Town Council are facilitating illicit commercial sex trade in the area.
According to Kassim Akule, the LCI Chairperson of Lorikwor West Village in Elegu, the illicit business is now being transacted in trucks as hundreds of cargo drivers spend between two to four days seeking clearance.
With truck drivers being identified as high-risk individuals, Gulu district Task force is concerned that failure to control their contact with community members will increase cases of community infections of COVID-19.
Ojara Martin Mapenduzi, the Gulu district chairperson and a member of the Task Force has since proposed a total lock down to minimise community infections.
Gulu regional referral hospital is currently managing 65 confirmed covid-19 positive and most of them are truck drivers evacuated from Elegu border post.
