D.P’s Norbert Mao Calls for elections being postponed

Democratic Party president Norbert Mao is calling for postponement of the forth coming general elections until the country is ready or to review the law to accommodate the so called scientific elections. This was one of the key issues discussed during his engagement yesterday with the newly elected chairman of the Interparty Organisation for Dialogue, Asuman Basalirwa. Mao asked Basalirwa to engage all IPOD summit members to speak out with one voice against the revised election roadmap released by the electoral body which banned candidates from holding campaign rallies in favour of digital platforms. He noted that free and fair elections calls for physical interface between the voters and candidates, emphasising that if this can’t happen due to the covid-19 pandemic then elections have to be postponed

Fresh kid and Felista Da SuperSta receives New tablets

The two Celebrated Ugandan young celebrites Fresh Kid aka Patrick Ssenyojo and Felista Da SuperSta has been given a New Tablet each to help them access online classes via Zoom. The Two Artists are pupils of Kampala parents primary school and they are all being funded by Ruparelia Foundation. The tablet was however given to the two by the managing director Rajiv Ruparelia. Kampala parents has recently started the e-Learning classes to enable the to catch up with the sylabus on time due to the impact of Covid-19 that has led to the Closer of schools in the country. Singer Bobi Wine also Kyadondo East’s Member of Parliament on Sunday 28th June 2020 held a Scientific Concert termed Freedom Concert. Lira; 20 yeard old man handed 10 years for defiling, infecting 8-year-old girl with HIV

A 20-year-old man was on Friday sentenced to 10 years imprisonment for defiling and infecting an 8-year-old girl with HIV/Aids. Emmanuel Eteka was convicted on his own plea of guilty during a virtual plea bargain session presided over by the Lira High Court resident judge Alex Ajiji Mackay. Prosecution told court that on March 2, 2019 at around 3am, Eteka while at Abongomon Village in Alebtong District, found the victim sleeping in their house and had sexual intercourse with her. “The victim was at that time eight years old and the sexual act caused tear and rapture in her private part. At the time of offence, Eteka was 19 years of age,” the prosecution stated. Mr Emmanuel Egaru, the defense counsel, had asked court to handle the convict with leniency since he pleaded guilty and had shown a sign of remorse. Frontline Health worker gets adequate training

On Thursday 25th June 2020, Ministry of heath in partnership with seed Global Health gave training to the front line health workers at Mulago, Butabika and Kiruddu hospitals in the Covid-19 management, continuity of essential health services and infection control and prevention. A total of 180 health workers have been equipped with the skills and knowledge on how to manage Covid-19 and continue with provision of essential health services

Three more people died of coronavirus in Kenya as 155 test positive

Three more people have succumbed to coronavirus in Kenya as 155 others tested positive in the last 24 hours. The death toll now stands at 128 with total number of cases reported in the country rising to 4,952. Health CAS Mercy Mwangangi said all of the new cases are Kenyans: 120 are male and 35 are female. She said the latest cases are from 4,171 samples with total cumulative samples tested now at 146,537. The youngest is a 1 year old infant and the oldest is 77 years old. COVID-19 in Kenya: 59 more people test positive, total rises to 4,797

Kenya's total cumulative samples tested now stands at 142,366, with these, a ge distribution of the new cases is between 7 to 67 years: out of the new 59 new cases, 47 are males and 12 are females. 73 more people have however been discharged bringing the total number of recoveries to 1,682. Two others succumbed to the COVID-19 disease in the last 24 hours raising the death toll to 125. The cases are spread out in Nairobi 28, Mombasa 21, Kilifi 3, Kiambu 2, Machakos 2, Kisii 1, Bungoma 1 and Webuye 1. Nairobi cases are from Dagoretti North 7; Kibra 5; Embakasi East 4; Embakasi North 3;Westlands 3; Embakasi West 2; Embakasi Central 2; Roysambu 1 and Makadara 1. In Mombasa, the 21 cases are in Kisauni 8; Likoni 5; Mvita 3; Nyali 2; Changamwe 2 and Jomvu 1. President Museveni in his 16th address on Corona virus updates speaks about the reopening of schools and other educational institutions and he said Education institutions will stay closed. Its still too risky to open schools. In the meantime, government will launch a big long-distance education programme through radios. Each homestead will get a radio set. Mbarara Archdiocese intalls new Archibishop

Archibishop Lambert Bainomugisha on Saturday 20th June have been installed as the New Archibishop of Mbarara Archdiocese. The installation has been termed as scientific as it only grabbed a few number of congregation due to the impact of Covid-19. Lambert Bainomugisha was appointed as the second Archibishop of Mbarara Archdiocese by Pop Francis on April 25th  2020. He served as the apostolic administrator of Hoima diocese before his appointment to Mbarara.

Police officer in charge Kiboga police Station Knocked dead by a Milk tanker

David Ddumba, the officer in charge of operations at Kiboga Police Station has died in a road accident. According to Wamala Region Police Spokesperson, Ms Rachel Kawala, Ddumba, who was riding on a motorcycle on the way home, was knocked by a milk tanker Reg. No. UAV 634Z at Kiwanguzi village, Kiboga District, on the Kampala-Hoima Road. Ms Kawala said that the driver of the tanker is on the run. She said that Ddumba’s body was taken to Kiboga Health Centre IV as investigations into details of the accident progress.

44 people discharged from Entebbe grade B hospital.

This afternoon, 44 patients have been discharged from Entebbe grade  B hospital after they fully recovered from covid-19. Out of these, 43 are truck drivers while 1 is the contact. The total recoveries now stands at 483. These event have been witnessed by the permanent secretary of Ministry of Health Dr. Diana Atwine.

Burundi’s incoming president Evariste Ndayishimiye sworn in

Burundi’s incoming president Evariste Ndayishimiye  (pictured ), was sworn in on Thursday following the sudden death of his predecessor Pierre Nkurunziza, a live broadcast on state-run television showed. Ndayishimiye, 52, a retired army general, won last month’s presidential election for the ruling party, defeating the opposition’s Agathon Rwasa and five others. Before Nkurunziza died earlier this month, he had been due to be sworn in to office in August.

Government of Uganda will encourage and promote import substitution as well as emphasize export promotion, in a bid to improve economic growth, according to President Yoweri Museveni. While speaking to Members of Parliament via a virtual presentation at State House after the Budget reading, Museveni expressed optimism with the country’s economy despite the effect of the global coronavirus pandemic. We are moving without much input from the outside world and because of that, we are going to be very strict with import substitution. I am glad the Minister of Finance has talked of putting a tax on imported items which we can make here,” said Museveni. He said this would promote industrialization that would increase on value addition and manufacture of goods locally that can be marketed through a comprehensive national export promotion strategy. Finance Minister Kasaija summoned over discrepancies in the Budget

Parliament Speaker, Rebecca Kadaga, has directed the Minister of Finance, Matia Kasaija, to explain discrepancies contained in his Budget speech presented last week and the National Budget for 2020/2021 as approved by the House.   “The Minister is required to come here tomorrow to explain the variances between the Appropriation Bill we passed here and the speech he made on the budget day,” said Kadaga adding that “We also want to know if the President assented to this Appropriation Bill, where did these figures come from?” The directive follows a complaint raised by the Chairperson of Parliament’s Budget Committee, Amos Lugoolobi, who cited figures mentioned by Kasaija on Thursday 11 June 2020 that differ from those within the approved budget. Lugoloobi said that whereas Parliament appropriated Shs400 billion for payment of arrears owed by government to private sector firms, the minister mentioned Shs673 billion in his address.
